LO1 – Research and Understanding the Brief

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What have you been asked to do?

To begin this entire project, our main focus was to successfully create an interactive video. Throughout this process, it got shortened down into smaller and individual segments so it was easier to understand. The first thing we was expected to do was create our soundtrack for it. This consisted of gathering enough sound effects that were needed for our film through either Foley or found effects via YouTube. The sound effects that I used part of my soundtrack was: door slamming that I created as Foley, dripping water which I also created as a Foley sound, people talking as a found sound through YouTube in which I had to convert through an online software called YouTube Converter in order to convert it into an MP3 file to use as an audio for the video, footsteps as a found effect and lastly a heartbeat as a found effect also.

During this process, we used a lot of picture and sound that wasn’t sometimes coming from the same clip. The relationship between both of these is that the viewer focuses more on the visuals rather than the sound of where it’s coming from. So the same imagery with different sound could mean totally different things to the audience such as: dialogue, sound effects and music.

We had to produce a sound bank for the production in which we was needed to gather all our sound effects together and add them into individual folders for each sfx. This way, it created an easier access to view all the sounds, to do so this was informed by our scripts that we did earlier on to keep track of what sounds were needed and where.

Lastly, we had to create a soundtrack for our production in where we was needed to put all of our Foley and founded sound effects altogether and add them to our production clips that was being edited on via Adobe Premiere Pro. This is where we would edit all our filmed videos and once we successfully did that, the next step was then to act upon the sounds to sync in with the videos. During the soundtrack, we used different editing techniques for this so each sound effect seemed realistic and believable and wanted to make sure it worked well, by coming in at the right time and slowly fading as the video moves on… a range of effects were used during the process of the sound track such as: sound gains which specifies the amount by which to increase or decrease the band & the high pass which removes frequencies below the specified Cut off frequency and the low pass eliminates frequencies above the specified Cut off frequency

I have been asked to collect a range of different ‘Foley and ‘found’ sound effects that I will be using within my Interactive video.
How did your soundtrack report and audio report help to prepare you for the task of producing your own soundtrack?
My soundtrack report and audio report helped prepare me for this task by producing my own soundtrack as it gave me a level too boost off from. This was because it gave me ideas to of what mine had to be like and how we could create our own sound effects and what things they was looking for.

An example of my sound track was that I used Foley and found sound effects that I wished to use within my production to include onto my filmed videos. I used walking upstairs which illustrated the use of one of our team members walking up the stairs while walking. We used this sound instead of the sound it naturally would’ve made, was to create it more dramatic and louder by doing this. However, in some cases in using sounds like a heartbeat, we couldn’t make ourselves so we had to find one via YouTube to make this work.

I decided I wanted my soundtrack to show tension as it was based on a genre that was quite mysterious and darker so I could then look back onto my research and reports for help in doing so.
What soundtrack techniques (this can include editing techniques) did you identify in the above tasks and how are those techniques used within your production?
The soundtrack techniques that I used within my production was by including a range of different sound levels for the audio track during editing that I added so my found sounds would seem mostly realistic and creating some sounds increase in sound and decrease in sound depending on what that sound is representing within the production – so it doesn’t come in so hard or softly (fits in nicely).
What, because of this reflection, will you change in your production and why?
My group and myself will be insisting on using the techniques that i had listed above as we all personally think that by using them will create our production to be as best as possible.

LO2.1 – Planning your soundtrack
Complete this with as much detail as possible
Summarise the planning involved in your soundtrack.
Starting off with how my planning started was when I firstly had to decide what sounds that were needed to create my soundtrack. The sounds that I used was a mixture between Foley and found sound effects from YouTube itself then converted into an MP4 file through YouTube Converter.
FOLEY SOUNDS: Dripping water and door slamming
FOUND SOUNDS: Classroom talking, walking upstairs, drinking/slurping water
After collecting all my sounds together that was needed for my video, I then created a folder within a folder that had different folders for the different sound effects labelled. This would make it clear to where to find these sounds when coming to editing for the video so we knew where everything was based. Adding on to this, we used a cue and Foley sheet which consisted with our sound effects that we had to write in and include what scene is for what sound and why to make it clear for ourselves for future reference.
How did you ensure that your cue-sheets were produced to a high enough standard?
I reassured that my cue-sheets were up to a high enough standard by including as much Foley sound effects as possible so it wasn’t just found effects via YouTube. By doing so, I made sure that the sounds were clear enough to listen too, suitable for the correct clip and to record more than one sound so you could pick the best sound taken to add it to the sound effect folder.
How much work did you complete outside of lessons?
I completed more work within inside the lessons rather than outside of the lessons. So not that much in comparison to inside of the lesson.
What issues did you have what planning your production? How did you overcome them?
The issues my group had when planning the production was getting the right sound effects for the correct piece of clip. This occurred because in some cases the audio wasn’t working, which were the cause in which we weren’t saving as we were going along. This then got rectified after many attempts in noticing what the issue actually was after asking for verbal feedback from a lecturer.
High Grade Tips

Look to use these terms in order to improve the analysis of your own work.

Relevant and coherent – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the media product you hope to make and talk about how they inform your planning.
Sustained – continue your research throughout the 4 week project and don’t just limit yourself.
Efficient production against timescales – how is your planning helping you to meet your deadline.

LO2.2 – Recording, Production and Editing

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What practical work have you completed and how helpful was your earlier planning?
The practical work so far that I have completed was recording our soundtrack sounds. By doing this we were needed to look over our script or cue-sheet to go over what sounds that were needed for the production. The earlier planning helped us with this as we could look back onto what sounds were needed and why.

One sound we planned to record was the background talking as we got nearer to classroom doors. We wanted to make it seem as real as possible so we did this because as it was filmed and based within the college, we added sound effects that you may hear at an working environment.
How will your planning be useful as your production process continues? E.g. did you update your cue-sheets as you recorded or edited? Why might this be good practice?
The planning will become useful as my production process continues by checking back through past planning for the production so it’s easier to look back on with the cue-sheets with our listed recorded sounds we created and both edited when started the progression of our interactive video. This will be good practise for later years as it will give you a brief idea of what it’s all about within the sound section of things.
How helpful did you find the verbal feedback within lessons from the lecturers and your classmates?
I found the verbal feedback helpful within my lessons from my classmates and lecturers as it brought ideas that we may not of thought about as a group until we discussed different routes into making our production successful with this.
The feedback that the lecturers and classmates gave back to us was their own opinions to what we could’ve made better like the use of colour we originally used for our website which was bright and bold colours that realistically doesn’t match the genre type. We had more in depth feedback comments from our lecturers a bit more than our classmates, which was because they know what they’re looking for and expecting from us. This consisted of using more Foley sounds than found sounds and by exploring the use of effects we could’ve used more when editing our audio clips.
How did you find the recording and editing process?
Personally I found the recording and editing process the easiest when dealing with sounds as we didn’t have to do much to the audio files apart from shortening them down to make it fit between the different individual clips below them as it plays within the background.
The software I used to edit from was Adobe Premiere Pro. This software was an easy software to use and was easy to pick up from. You were able to add in different effects to your audio files such as slow motion and changing the speed of the filming clips as well as the audio itself.
Did you encounter any problems? How did you overcome them?
We didn’t encounter any problems during this stage apart from the issues within the production itself, like when we had to render all our clips together, it wouldn’t ever finish off and kept applying a warning to our screen stating ‘issue’ which we didn’t know to of why but thankfully we managed to solve these issues by keep trying over and over again.
How do you feel your soundtrack compares to existing professional products?
I feel like I’ve got a lot to learn about sound and how we can use this as a track as a whole. However, because this is my first ever soundtrack being made, I personally feel that it is a good effort for a first track. But I could’ve used more interesting and in-depth sound effects within this to make it seem more realistic when using the found effects from YouTube.
What area are you looking to improve on in your next production?
The area that I will be looking to improve on in my next production would be the stage in extending my tracks with more length and interesting sounds that maybe used next time instead of the basic: water dripping or door slamming. This can be figured out and sorted for next time by planning more in advance in what I want to include and how I can create an extension onto it so it sounds much better and maybe using more than one sound for just one section (2 in 1) so it doubles…
High Grade Tips

Use screenshots to support your analysis – especially when comparing your work to other pieces.

Considered and capable demonstration of processes – detailed documentation of your production process – such as annotated screenshots of editing process – including ‘what’ and ‘why’ and not just ‘how’.

Specific – be specific! Don’t just say ‘the music was good’ – say specifically where the music is effective and explain why you think that.

Stefan's Evaluation

Evaluation
Regular evaluation updates are required, as with every unit. Please remember to take photos as you film. You might find it easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.
Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.
LO1 – Research and Understanding the Brief

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What have you been asked to do?
I have been asked to create an Interactive video as a group and decide your own storyline of what will be happening during this. This consisted of taking behind the scenes photographs, individual clips to create the video as a whole and add in your questions to make it interactive.
How has the brief helped you to finalise your idea?
The brief has helped me finalise my idea by following the instructions that we had to follow to decide what we actually would like to do for it. By doing this we got given a name during the brief lesson in getting told what we had to do for it and we got given a name called ‘The Hunted’. We as a group decided to decide what genre would fit best for this. So by following the brief it gave us an understanding in how to complete this.
How has analysing videos helped you to understand the genre better?
By me analysing other interactive videos, has helped me understand the genre better through getting a basic idea to of what they're looking for, for that set genre type. For example: 'Take the knife' video shoes a crime genre towards that video and gives an understanding to of what that genre is all about.
How has creating a test interactive production helped you to understand the genre better?
Creating a test interactive production has helped me understand the genre better by firstly, knowing what our chosen title is called and then work around that. Our title was called 'The Hunted' which we decided to base it around a darker, morbid environment where it shows and gives clips and information towards a genre type like 'crime'.
What filming techniques have you researched into and how are those techniques going to be used within the filming of your production?
The filming techniques that we have researched into would be using more advanced equipment like 'Go Pros' to show a wider lens and clearer view. We could have done this with a head set or by just holding it in our hand. Furthermore, we will be using these within our production to give a better viewed video.
What editing techniques have you researched into and how are those techniques going to be used within the editing of your production?
The editing techniques that my group and myself will be using is a website called 'H5P'. This is where all the Interactive actions will take place. We will be using these techniques within the editing of our production through creating hotspot links that the viewers can click onto to take them directly to the chosen option they may wish to take...
What are you using in your production from this analysis?
The effects that i used within the editing of my production, was half way during my video, i included a sound effect of people chatting. When adding this, it came in too hard and loud so i was then needed to make it quieter and come in softer than beforehand. So by doing this i was needed to use an effect tool called exponential fade which would be found within the effects tab and then the crossfade folder. This would then let your sound effect come in louder and decrease at the end so it isn’t as forward.

LO2.1 – Planning the Production
Complete this with as much detail as possible
What did you learn from your planning this week?
What we learnt from my planning this week, was to know how to use H5P on the computer to create our hotspots within our individual clips. We also learnt how to film our individual clips and what we will be filming to make it all come together. Furthermore, we learnt how to work as a group and understand each other’s storylines to know how to fit it all together once it comes to the end. Adding onto this, we were needed to know how to create a branch chart of our chosen story line that we would look back on once we started filming to know what to film and first. Lastly, we were taught in how to create a script from scene by scene for our interactive video using a software called Adobe Story.
How did you ensure that your storyboards were to a high enough standard?
We ensured that our storyboards were to a high enough standard by double checking we included every scene within each individual box of the board, with a clear description of what that scene was about, the title (where it was based) and a clear picture of what that scene may consist of. Also, by ensuring that detailed words were used within the description to show a clear understanding to of what that scene was about and focusing each box with an important scene from the script.
How much work did you complete outside of the lessons?
I completed more work within the lesson than I did outside of the lessons. This was because I felt like if I did more of my work inside of lessons, I would have a more helping hand than if I completed it outside of lessons.
What issues did you have what planning your production? How did you overcome them?
The only issues we had when planning our production, was when the facilities we was using like our computers, wasn't uploading anything we may of wished it to of done. We thought this because we was finding it difficult to get the clips and sounds on the different software’s we was using like Adobe Premier, working to the full speed to of what we may of wished it to be like. Sometimes there were crashes and we had to start again, but we resolved this issue so it didn't then become a problem for our group. There has been efficient production against timescales when planning for our production because we would plan what days we are doing what to get as much done as possible and not limiting ourselves and leaving it to last minute.

LO2.2 – Filming and Editing

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What practical work have you done and how helpful was your earlier planning?
The practical work that I have done so far is filming our individual clips for our video. By doing our planning earlier on, created an easier process for us as we had it already set out for ourselves and clear information in what we was needed to do next; especially script writing, this was because by using a script, could easily show us in what scene is showing what and who is included within that scene.
How will your planning be useful as your production process continues?
My planning will be useful as our production process continues as if we need to look back onto any information that we may of forgotten or need, then we can always read back through the information of planning we have already created so nothing messes up during our production process.
What issues did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
The issues we encountered during filming and editing would be if the facilities we needed weren't available when we needed them to be, we had to reschedule it and bring it further back which created more work and less time to get everything done by. However, by overcoming this issue during process, we fitted the time in so we didn't create more jobs on our hands so we didn't make it any more stressful.
How helpful did you find the verbal feedback within lessons from the lecturers and your classmates?
By having verbal feedback from our lecturers and classmates, created a more helping hand than we would if we only had our groups feedback or our own knowledge. This would have been because my group may of forgotten to use or add a certain piece within our production and the use of verbal feedback helped up to go back over of what we may of not added. It created a brainstorm as well as feedback. But personally, it was even better to get feedback this way as you can change from the mistakes you may of created without knowing that would've made our production even more successful through feedback given off of other people.
How did you find the filming and editing process?
How I found the filming process was much easier than I expected. Especially in using the 'GoPro' to film as it created a better viewing than it would if we used the normal cameras to film with. Also, the editing process was simpler as well than I would have of thought as by using Adobe Premiere, created a much better and easier way in editing our film clips together by adding our found and Foley sounds as well as just the edits.
Upload your photos from behind the scene (explain what they show)

Did you encounter any problems? How did you overcome them?
We encountered problems when one of our team members wasn’t there during editing which caused an issue when we needed their clips to add onto our production as a whole. We however managed to rectify this matter and did the tasks that we could still do and to get them ones out of the way so all we had to do was to just wait until that team member was back and then lastly got to sort it out by doing it as one of our last things achieve.
How do you feel your product compares to existing professional products?
I feel like our product compares to other professional products by having the same storyline and how they’re all portrayed within the media. This is shown by both including an interactive video, information on what it’s all based on, a chosen genre and whoosh team members are within the process of production. However, the elements that i personally thought that doesn’t compare fully with other professional products would be the amount of promoting the website and video to the full max that we could of than if we was a professional product. This is mainly because the amount of interactive level of audience that professional products get compared to non professional products like us hasn’t got a level of insights than they would have. This just encourages us to try and promote it to the full max than we could.
What area are you looking to improve on in your next production?
The area that we were looking at to improve on within our next production, would be: maybe adding sound throughout the whole of the production not just small clips that came into the actions on the different scenes. INCLUDE PHOTO COMPARING ANOTHER PIECE TO MY PRODUCTION
High Grade Tips

Use screenshots to support your analysis – especially when comparing your work to other pieces.

Considered and capable demonstration of processes – detailed documentation of your production process – such as still images, and annotated screenshots of your specific production and editing process – including ‘what’ and ‘why’ and not just ‘how’.

Specific – be specific! Don’t just say e.g. ‘the lighting was good’ – show us where the lighting looked good and why you think that.

Chris' Evaluation

Unit 7 Interactive

Comparing our website with the film websites that we were looking at during the start of the term, was showing different genres than our website as a whole. This is because ours used a darker pallete of secondary colours, like whites, blues and oranges. This then compares to a website that we was looking at during the start called Jumanji - http://www.jumanjimovie.com/site/
This website uses an Interactive 360 video where you are accessible to view the surroundings of what it’s like in the film giving you a sneak peek “behind the scenes”. This would compare with ours as their website has a different layout to ours, for example when you first click on the URL for the website, it takes you directly to the interactive view but ours takes you straight to the home page which shows you the synopsis of the film. This is because we wanted to do something differently but still attach it on a different page tab.

My website conforms to existing websites like the Jumanji movie because they both include information about the video and use the similar tones of colour like: blue, white, orange and black. These are quite basic colours but create the layout of the website eye-catching and more enjoyable to look at. Screen Shot 2018-03-22 at 14.06.58.png

Screen Shot 2018-03-22 at 14.15.01.png

Our website and the Jumanji website are however different within how the information is laid out. Our website uses tabs that you are able to click on o view the information about our interactive video and gives you the list of who the team are. However, the Jumanji 360 experience sends you straight to their 360 virtual video where you are able to go through the experience of Jumanji and understand what it’s all about through your own pace. The differences of this is due to creative choices that we had made. For example: we decided to just use drop down tabs to include the information about our film and include behind the scene photographs to show our audience what went on during the process of filming. But the Jumanji 360 virtual experience let you further into what the films all about by going around on a tour of what it’s all about. The feedback we got from our target audience was that they personally thought that next time when creating something like this, we could’ve added more interactive usage within the website not including the interactive video with it. The problems we faced with this was that we had struggle with getting as much information as possible due to lack of communication sometimes and people not being in to gather their information that they wish to add too.
As a group we had all decided that we could’ve effectively branded and promoted our promotional package more than we should of as this would’ve meant that we would have more reviews from audience members of what they think about the film. Comparing this to other promotional packages, it hardly gained any views then we thought as we was needed to attract our audience beforehand.

Our audience’s response to our website: https://www.wix.com/dashboard/46c86847-fe41-4fd8-9414-2404b912c4da/manage-website/domains was quite positive in given feedback from how they liked our range of colours that matched our chosen genre, showing who our team are and what our roles are within the production. They gave us further responses for our social media too, which wasn’t as much positive feedback as we had for our website but it wasn’t bad. We had feedback stating: ‘good posts, but more information about our interactive production’.
As a group, we discussed how effective we thought our website and social media strategy was for our film and we thought that it worked quite well. This was because we researched when our audience was most active which will cause more viewings on our social media/website platforms and by including information and photographs that our audience would enjoy and like seeing. What we would do next time to improve our website and social media strategy is to add more things to the website and to use more in-depth information to our synopsis, instead of basic information of what the film is about and why we chose to do it.
Our planning for our production was very effective, despite the parts that became an issue, for example the facilities we wanted to use like the rooms we needed to film in was unavailable to use until it was free which set us back further and created more time on our hands.

The elements of my planning were useful with the use of branch chart to look over in knowing what was needed to film first and following it along with so we didn’t miss any clips out or make a wrong choice by going the wrong direction. However, the elements of my planning were week with the editing stage as this became one of my main issues as I had a lot to learn and wasn’t very confident on so it created more of an impact within my work and wouldn’t of  been up to scratch if I didn’t have it checked over. But this made an impact with my production as James and Megan, my other team members would be ahead of me with this, so it would set everyone back with what they were needed to do. What I would do next time to improve on the elements that showed weakness, would be learning how to do the parts that I found harder before I was needed to start making a progression on. This would be from understanding the differences between Foley and found sounds for my soundtrack and knowing how to use the different equipment we were using for filming our production with. We were using a GoPro to show a wide angle lens, but by doing so we was needed to learn how to hold the GoPro properly so it wasn’t shaky and out of proportion.

In my own opinion, the parts that I personally thought that worked particularly well were the use of research that I conducted throughout my production process. This would consist of collecting all my research onto different online documents so I could keep it in different files and folders so whenever I needed a recap in what was expected of, and then it wouldn’t become a problem. My work was adapted through my research and feedback by giving me a helping hand in what was willing to be asked and would make my work easier in knowing how to layout certain information needed, this would then therefore make my work more successful with the use of backup sheets to help.

Narrative Theories - Propp's Character Theory

Propp's Character Theory can be applied in a way that'll relate to my script because in my script, i used many different characters like the 'Hero' that finds the 'Villain' and struggles to run away from the 'Hero'. The hero is driven by achieving a goal and the villain is motivated by trying to stop them. This then links to my film because in Propps Theory, the 'Villain' fights and tries to defeat the 'Hero' within the story line. An example from my film would be when the person holding the GoPro (villain) is trying to find the 'Hero' which then finds out to be hiding in the car park at the back of the Hawthorn Block. They are these characters because they are representing a character to be a part within the story and to present their actions that these 'Villain' and 'Hero's' would do.

Todorov's Equilibrium

Todorov's Equilibrium Theory can be applied in a way that'll relate to my script because in my script, we used a narrative that followed the Three Act Structure. The Three Act Structure is a model that is used within screenwriting and is divided into three parts. This theory has informed the development of my characters as at the beginning of my story, the characters start happy but then however changes when something is then disturbed between this, this is called Equilibrium which is founded in Todorov’s theory. Next, this then changes through a distribution where something will feature a problem or something will disturb happiness. This would link back to my interactive film as at the beginning of the story, deciding on what option you’ll take, something will always disturb happiness as you’re trying to escape from the ‘unknown’ character. Linking back to the characters, this would then relate back to the ‘villain’ and ‘hero’ within a story.

The Hero’s Journey

See the source imageThe Hero’s Journey is portraying the expedition of the hero – the hero goes on an adventure, wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed into someone different. This relates to my story as throughout my story the hero wins either way, doesn’t matter what choice you choose, you’ll always find them. This theory has informed the development of my characters as well as they’ll only be either a ‘hero’ or ‘villain’ within our film. You will see the ‘hero’ (person you’ll be) go on their journey…

My characters go through the stage of the Hero’s Journey that Joseph Campbell described as the adventure begins within my story. This starts with the character going off and choosing their own options to get to the end of the journey. They will go through challenges and temptations in deciding what the best options are to succeed. My characters undergo deaths and rebirths as they will choose options that’ll say ‘try again’ which they will then need to start from the very beginning and choose very carefully. They don’t receive any calls to start their journey, but they have three choices they can choose from to go with what story they may wish to follow. This is making it interesting for them as they can go at their own pace and speed, by choosing their own path in what interests them the most.

Binary Oppositions

The Binary Oppositions shows the differences between two different things e.g. good VS evil, black VS white. This can be applied within my script as I will be using two genres for my film: boy VS girl and would also apply for my characters too. This is because they’ll be good VS evil groups which will be the ‘villains’ and ‘hero’. This is particularly shown in genres such as action and thrillers in a protagonist and antagonist ride. We don’t have any conflict within our story, we’ve kept it as mutual as possible but there are different characters like the ‘hero’ and ‘villain’ that still may not agree in their choices and way to succeed, but it doesn’t show it within the story. However, this doesn’t arise from positioning in Binary Opposites against one another in the narrative because it still follows a story and still follows the Binary Oppositions within the narrative.

Representation

The casting decision informed the idea of Representation through age, gender, class and ethnicity. This was because when deciding who we wanted as each character, it was needed to be a boy and girl within one shot – filming and the one in front of the camera but wasn’t allowed to show the person who’s segment it was as this was due to finding them at the end. We had a clear idea to of what we wanted our characters to look like. We wanted it to be as simple as possible due to we didn’t want to go over the top with looks as focused more on what the storyline would be about but on the other hand, we made it obvious who was what character. Yes – we was able to find someone to fit that idea of choosing who would be what character, in which we used the other team members. We chose to present the character in terms of costume, lighting, and framing by including elements that’ll present their chosen character. For example: we would use darker, flashing and morbid lighting to represent the character as an evil villain this is because we wanted to make it obvious who was who within the story.

But, for every character we still mad them themselves, so we still stuck to our own everyday outfits. This was because we wanted to do something different by not having a specific character for a different character. We ensured that the audience thought about the character the way we wanted them to by letting them think and imagine what they wanted, this is because as it’s an interactive video, they chose their path and option so they would use their imaginations in how they wanted the characters to be portrayed through their decision in story.

Hypodermic Needle Model

As a group we wasn’t trying to repeatedly inject any messages, themes or ideas in their head as we wanted them to choose their own path and imagination as we decided that by having an interactive video and not sticking to a main message, they’ll choose their journey that will keep themselves entertained. When editing, we used stylistic techniques such as mise-en-scene as this created a visual theme for the audience which was adventurous and we also used effects such as rewind that was used when the audience chose the wrong direction, when ‘try again’ was displayed on the screen. By doing so, this then created a passive audience theory as it brought a powerful effect onto the audience through the use of edits to make it seem more realistic and the audience to feel like they’re actually in the story.

Uses & Gratifications Model

The uses that the audience may have for our media product would be three things: self confidence in following their own decision in what path to choose and go with, pleasure in enjoying our product through recognition, videos and pictures, and lastly, empowerment by interactive conversations between the characters on screen and themselves. Through the use of interactive conversations we were aiming to let the viewers and audience to talk about the entertain that our product brought to them, and bringing a conversation through the use of technology of interactive videos and the audience.

Encoding/Decoding Model

The techniques that we used to encode to our film was by presenting our product by just showing our interactive film and tell the audience what it’s all about by just watching and interacting with it. Our group communicated to the audience that a villain was a villain or that a dangerous situation was dangerous by changing the effect of sound, this was then achieved by using a software called Adobe premiere pro that we all used to edit on. The effects that I used to edit my audio on to make a dangerous scene seem dangerous by changing the tempo so the sound decreases and seems more morbid for the audience to listen too. We used editing and the music to express the effect of a darker scene like in scene 6 when you get nearer to in finding the ‘unknown’ character but we didn’t use costume for this because we felt like we wanted a different atmosphere and not follow along the lines like any other film that has certain, based costumes for the different characters.

However, other audience members may decode our messages to our media project as they may not agree with what they may read, or understand through interpreting a text. A different social or cultural background result in a viewer coming away from our film with a very different interpretation to one that we intended as they may not like the use in how we’ve made it into an interactive video, and what genre we’ve based it on as they’re argument may be that “not everyone likes and enjoys our chosen genre”, which is adventurous/crime…
