Stefan's Evaluation

Evaluation
Regular evaluation updates are required, as with every unit. Please remember to take photos as you film. You might find it easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.
Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.
LO1 – Research and Understanding the Brief

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What have you been asked to do?
I have been asked to create an Interactive video as a group and decide your own storyline of what will be happening during this. This consisted of taking behind the scenes photographs, individual clips to create the video as a whole and add in your questions to make it interactive.
How has the brief helped you to finalise your idea?
The brief has helped me finalise my idea by following the instructions that we had to follow to decide what we actually would like to do for it. By doing this we got given a name during the brief lesson in getting told what we had to do for it and we got given a name called ‘The Hunted’. We as a group decided to decide what genre would fit best for this. So by following the brief it gave us an understanding in how to complete this.
How has analysing videos helped you to understand the genre better?
By me analysing other interactive videos, has helped me understand the genre better through getting a basic idea to of what they're looking for, for that set genre type. For example: 'Take the knife' video shoes a crime genre towards that video and gives an understanding to of what that genre is all about.
How has creating a test interactive production helped you to understand the genre better?
Creating a test interactive production has helped me understand the genre better by firstly, knowing what our chosen title is called and then work around that. Our title was called 'The Hunted' which we decided to base it around a darker, morbid environment where it shows and gives clips and information towards a genre type like 'crime'.
What filming techniques have you researched into and how are those techniques going to be used within the filming of your production?
The filming techniques that we have researched into would be using more advanced equipment like 'Go Pros' to show a wider lens and clearer view. We could have done this with a head set or by just holding it in our hand. Furthermore, we will be using these within our production to give a better viewed video.
What editing techniques have you researched into and how are those techniques going to be used within the editing of your production?
The editing techniques that my group and myself will be using is a website called 'H5P'. This is where all the Interactive actions will take place. We will be using these techniques within the editing of our production through creating hotspot links that the viewers can click onto to take them directly to the chosen option they may wish to take...
What are you using in your production from this analysis?
The effects that i used within the editing of my production, was half way during my video, i included a sound effect of people chatting. When adding this, it came in too hard and loud so i was then needed to make it quieter and come in softer than beforehand. So by doing this i was needed to use an effect tool called exponential fade which would be found within the effects tab and then the crossfade folder. This would then let your sound effect come in louder and decrease at the end so it isn’t as forward.

LO2.1 – Planning the Production
Complete this with as much detail as possible
What did you learn from your planning this week?
What we learnt from my planning this week, was to know how to use H5P on the computer to create our hotspots within our individual clips. We also learnt how to film our individual clips and what we will be filming to make it all come together. Furthermore, we learnt how to work as a group and understand each other’s storylines to know how to fit it all together once it comes to the end. Adding onto this, we were needed to know how to create a branch chart of our chosen story line that we would look back on once we started filming to know what to film and first. Lastly, we were taught in how to create a script from scene by scene for our interactive video using a software called Adobe Story.
How did you ensure that your storyboards were to a high enough standard?
We ensured that our storyboards were to a high enough standard by double checking we included every scene within each individual box of the board, with a clear description of what that scene was about, the title (where it was based) and a clear picture of what that scene may consist of. Also, by ensuring that detailed words were used within the description to show a clear understanding to of what that scene was about and focusing each box with an important scene from the script.
How much work did you complete outside of the lessons?
I completed more work within the lesson than I did outside of the lessons. This was because I felt like if I did more of my work inside of lessons, I would have a more helping hand than if I completed it outside of lessons.
What issues did you have what planning your production? How did you overcome them?
The only issues we had when planning our production, was when the facilities we was using like our computers, wasn't uploading anything we may of wished it to of done. We thought this because we was finding it difficult to get the clips and sounds on the different software’s we was using like Adobe Premier, working to the full speed to of what we may of wished it to be like. Sometimes there were crashes and we had to start again, but we resolved this issue so it didn't then become a problem for our group. There has been efficient production against timescales when planning for our production because we would plan what days we are doing what to get as much done as possible and not limiting ourselves and leaving it to last minute.
High Grade Tips

Look to use these terms in order to improve the analysis of your own work.

Relevant and coherent – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the media product you hope to make and talk about how they inform your planning.
Sustained – continue your research throughout the 4 week project and don’t just limit yourself.
Efficient production against timescales – how is your planning helping you to meet your deadline.

LO2.2 – Filming and Editing

Complete this with as much detail as possible
What practical work have you done and how helpful was your earlier planning?
The practical work that I have done so far is filming our individual clips for our video. By doing our planning earlier on, created an easier process for us as we had it already set out for ourselves and clear information in what we was needed to do next; especially script writing, this was because by using a script, could easily show us in what scene is showing what and who is included within that scene.
How will your planning be useful as your production process continues?
My planning will be useful as our production process continues as if we need to look back onto any information that we may of forgotten or need, then we can always read back through the information of planning we have already created so nothing messes up during our production process.
What issues did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
The issues we encountered during filming and editing would be if the facilities we needed weren't available when we needed them to be, we had to reschedule it and bring it further back which created more work and less time to get everything done by. However, by overcoming this issue during process, we fitted the time in so we didn't create more jobs on our hands so we didn't make it any more stressful.
How helpful did you find the verbal feedback within lessons from the lecturers and your classmates?
By having verbal feedback from our lecturers and classmates, created a more helping hand than we would if we only had our groups feedback or our own knowledge. This would have been because my group may of forgotten to use or add a certain piece within our production and the use of verbal feedback helped up to go back over of what we may of not added. It created a brainstorm as well as feedback. But personally, it was even better to get feedback this way as you can change from the mistakes you may of created without knowing that would've made our production even more successful through feedback given off of other people.
How did you find the filming and editing process?
How I found the filming process was much easier than I expected. Especially in using the 'GoPro' to film as it created a better viewing than it would if we used the normal cameras to film with. Also, the editing process was simpler as well than I would have of thought as by using Adobe Premiere, created a much better and easier way in editing our film clips together by adding our found and Foley sounds as well as just the edits.
Upload your photos from behind the scene (explain what they show)

Did you encounter any problems? How did you overcome them?
We encountered problems when one of our team members wasn’t there during editing which caused an issue when we needed their clips to add onto our production as a whole. We however managed to rectify this matter and did the tasks that we could still do and to get them ones out of the way so all we had to do was to just wait until that team member was back and then lastly got to sort it out by doing it as one of our last things achieve.
How do you feel your product compares to existing professional products?
I feel like our product compares to other professional products by having the same storyline and how they’re all portrayed within the media. This is shown by both including an interactive video, information on what it’s all based on, a chosen genre and whoosh team members are within the process of production. However, the elements that i personally thought that doesn’t compare fully with other professional products would be the amount of promoting the website and video to the full max that we could of than if we was a professional product. This is mainly because the amount of interactive level of audience that professional products get compared to non professional products like us hasn’t got a level of insights than they would have. This just encourages us to try and promote it to the full max than we could.
What area are you looking to improve on in your next production?
The area that we were looking at to improve on within our next production, would be: maybe adding sound throughout the whole of the production not just small clips that came into the actions on the different scenes. INCLUDE PHOTO COMPARING ANOTHER PIECE TO MY PRODUCTION
High Grade Tips

Use screenshots to support your analysis – especially when comparing your work to other pieces.

Considered and capable demonstration of processes – detailed documentation of your production process – such as still images, and annotated screenshots of your specific production and editing process – including ‘what’ and ‘why’ and not just ‘how’.

Specific – be specific! Don’t just say e.g. ‘the lighting was good’ – show us where the lighting looked good and why you think that.
